The ivory and white satin-gazar dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen is the centerpiece of the annual summer opening of Buckingham Palace tours for the public, PEOPLEreports. Besides the gown, the exhibit will include the former Kate Middleton’s earrings, tiara and shoes.
Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth toured the exhibit during what was estimated to be a record-breaking season of visitors. Vanity Fair contributing editor, Victoria Mather told CBS News, “It’s absolutely fantastic, I mean, it’s lifted, having the Duchess of Cambridge’s dress there, has lifted the whole exhibit.”
According to the Daily Mail, more than half a million people are expected to view the dress as part of the Palace’s annual summer exhibition this year, but her Majesty was give her own tour by the Duchess. The dress will now be the star attraction in the summer opening of Buckingham Palace, from 23 July to October.
Kate Middleton waves to the crowd as she arrives to attend her Royal Wedding to Prince William of Wales at Westminster Abbey on Friday (April 29) in London, England. “Visitors will see what a great example of British couture it is,” exhibition curator Caroline de Guitaut says of the wedding dress.
The palace said in a statement, “Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing”.
