Cold and dry air is the main reason of extra dry skin in winter months. Cold air contains a less amount of moisture than warm air, so it can intensely dry out your skin. To prevent the harsh effects of cold and dry air, you should apply a good-quality moisturizing cream or lotion on daily basis. It will help your skin to retain the moisture for long time. Furthermore, cover up your skin and head by wearing a scarf or hat before heading outdoors to give yourself a proper protection against harsh winds. Never go out without applying sunscreen that protects your skin from harsh sun-rays.
The heat in your house also plays an important role in drying your skin. This problem can be solved by using a humidifier. A humidifier adds moisture back into the air. It would be a best decision if you invest on whole-house humidifier but if it is not possible, install a unit in the bedroom.
Hot Water Showers
In the winter season, a mostly person like enjoying hot water showers but it is an adverse conduct. Hot shower can give you great feelings for few minutes but it snatches the natural moisture of your skin. Make sure to use warm water instead of hot water for taking shower to prevent skin from becoming dull and dry. Adding few drops of any essential oil in the bath-water is a best technique to keep your skin soft and supple in harsh winter months. In addition, you should avoid using the cleansing products, which can dry your skin such as detergent and highly-alkaline soaps.
In the cold season, mostly people increase the use of hot drinks like tea, coffee and hot chocolate etc. It is to remember that tea, coffee and hot chocolate contain caffeine, which dries the inner side of your skin. To overcome this issue, the best way is to replace these hot drinks with herbal tea. To keep your inside well-hydrated, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water each day.
